This article explains the reasons why being on Facebook matters if you're serious about finding your customers online. Some internet marketers just concentrate on paid advertising, and that can be done through Facebook. Others focus on search engine rankings, and that can be done through Facebook as well if you know how to do it.
Facebook fans matter. By its own reckoning, it has more than one billion members. That's 14% of the world's population. Yet, fewer than two percent are considered to be active members. That means that there's a huge opportunity for those who understand the marketing power that Facebook fans have. In this article I'm going to share with you three reasons why they're so important to your business.
1. Facebook fans reinforce your brand.
How can you create a brand that potential customers will recognize? Some do it with a logo or a trademark. Others do it with a clever company name. Still others do it with a strapline.
But all of these things by themselves will not reinforce your brand if no one notices. And that is part of the power that Facebook fans can give you; because when a lot of people know who you are, they tell others as well.
2. The more Facebook fans you have, the more credibility you have.
We're all impressed by numbers. Big ones make us feel better about good things. This is true in the world of social media, too. The more friends you have, the more you'll attract. The more "likes" that you have, the more people will like you.
But there's much more to it than that. Let me give you an example.
If you were a regular user of Facebook and you discovered that a business in your neighborhood didn't have a fan page? You might not think anything of it.
What if that same business had 100 fans? Would that change your opinion of them?
What if it had ten thousand fans? What would you think of them then?
And how would your opinion change if when you first checked their fan page they only had 100 fans, but three months later they had ten thousand?
Do you see how easily your perception can be influenced by some numbers? That's a part of the power of Facebook fan pages. They can give you credibility and build trust.
The more that people like you, the more they trust you. And the more they trust you, the more likely that they'll buy from you when they have a need for your product or service.
3. Facebook fans create a forum.
A forum is nothing more than a place where people go to discuss a shared interest. But, your fan page isn't just any forum. Instead it's a place where you can talk to people. And that's where trust begins, on social media.
It reminds me of that old song: "Getting to know you. Getting to know all about you."
As you talk to one another, you start to build a relationship. It simply doesn't matter how many fans you have if you don't interact with them.
But, branding, trusting, and talking cannot occur unless the people you're trying to reach are your fans already, and that means that you may need to use some creative ways to get their attention.
One of the best ways is to use SEO on social media pages, in order to rank them on the first page of a Google search or Facebook search. Take a look at the linked page for more details on that subject, and also check out my other articles here.
